Preaspiration and sonorant devoicing in the Gräsö dialect: preliminary findings
Proceedings from the XIIth Swedish Phonetics Conference
77 - 80
The spontaneous speech of one Gräsö informant was analysed with respect to the production of sequences where a vowel or a sonorant precedes a fortis stop. It was found that both pre-aspiration and the partial devoicing of sonorants commonly occur in a manner that suggests that they are obligatory in the informant's speech and probably normative in his dialect.
