This investigation was intended as a study of the infant’s ability to associate naturally presented target words (occurring in sentences) with the objects they refer to. The variables of interest were age-related aspects and the infant’s exposure to the word, as measured by the number of target-word repetitions. The operant Head-Turn procedure was used. However the subject pool could not be made large enough to allow a meaningful statistical analysis of the data. Instead, the study was re-focused towards methodological aspects.
